Kundapur, Nov 11: Unidentified miscreants on Tuesday November 11 attempted to set fire to the house of Sarfaraz, who is accused of eloping with a married woman from a different community.
Sarfaraz, a resident of Amasebail, had allegedly eloped with a married woman named Madhura Hebbar after luring her with riches. The incident sparked protests by various outfits in Amasebail. The couple was later found and the woman was handed over to her family.
The fire was discovered when some people were on their way to the mosque for prayers at around 5 am. As per reports, the house was not occupied when it was set on fire.
Sarfaraz’s father was staying at his relative’s house as his wife was admitted to a hospital in Kundapur. It is said that disturbed by the recent events, Sarfaraz’s mother was taken ill.
The miscreants had used petrol before setting fire. The fire brigade rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. Forensic experts are said to be on their way from Mangalore to assist in the investigations.
The whereabouts of Sarfaraz is not known. Madhura Hebbar is said to be living with her aunt after her appearance yesterday in the police station.
