Victorious Indian hockey team returns home


New Delhi, Nov 11 (PTI): Indian men's hockey team that stunned world champions Australia 3-1 in a test series returned home to a rousing reception by Hockey India (HI) and fans and here today.

The Sardar Singh-led team put up stupendous show after losing the first test. It was second big achievement for the side in recent times after winning the Asian Games gold medal in Incheon.

"I am extremely happy with the way our team has performed in the entire series. And there could be no better gift to my completion of 200 international caps than this memorable win," India skipper Sardar Singh.

"This will act as a motivation for the boys to give a better performance in the upcoming Champions Trophy. I am confident that the boys will perform well in the upcoming tournament," Sardar said.

Congratulating the team for their superb performance, Hockey India Secretary General Md. Mushtaque Ahmad said, "Team India had a good game against Australia which is a good sign of confidence and control. Also, Sardar Singh's achievement of completing 200 international caps has added a glory to the win. I feel the team is ready to take up more challenges and deliver even better results in the Champions Trophy which is our next focus."

India will open their campaign against Germany in the Champions Trophy, scheduled to be played in Bhubaneswar from December 6-14.
