More women taken ill in Chhattisgarh post tubectomy

Raipur, Nov 12 (IANS): The condition of at least three women who underwent surgery for sterilisation at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh has deteriorated, sources said Wednesday. However, officials denied the reports.

Sources said the condition of the three women at another camp at Jagdalpur in Bastar district deteriorated after the tubectomy surgery Tuesday afternoon.

But official Devendra Nag said the health of the women was alright. He said proper precautions were taken both before and after the surgery.

The incident comes days after 12 women died in Bilaspur district following tubectomy surgeries at a government camp organised Saturday. Eighty-three women underwent surgery at the camp organised at Nemichand Hospital in Pendari village, 10 km from Bilaspur.
