Consensus emerging in Pakistan over CEC's name

Islamabad, Nov 12 (IANS): The Pakistan government and the opposition Wednesday appeared converging on the name of Justice Tariq Pervez as the next chief election commissioner (CEC) of the country, sources said.

Senator Ishaq Dar spoke to leader of opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah and discussed the issue, Geo News reported citing sources.

Shah, the sources said, sought time till Wednesday night for final consultation on the matter.

Former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani had earlier refused to accept the post.

Justice Tariq Pervez is the former chief justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and sources said that he is considered the most suitable candidate for the position at present.

However, both the parties agreed to take his opinion before sending his name to the parliamentary committee.
