Udupi, Nov 8: The Kasturba Hospital Manipal has  acquired the latest version the GE Infinia Hawk Eye Dual headed Gamma Camera which is the state-of –art Gama Camera making the department of nuclear medicine very advanced one that uses safe, painless, cost effective techniques to image the body and providing accurate diagnosis support to various clinical departments.

This was announced during a national-level conference held at KMC Hospital here on Saturday November 4. MAHE pro-chancellor Dr H S Ballal inaugurated the conference. Speaking on the occasion he said that the field of nuclear medicine had a lot of potential. Dr Ballal informed the gathering that, the benefits of nuclear medicine in the diagnosis of various health ailments to the people. 

Ravi Kashyap, joint director and HOD of Nuclear Medicine of Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Applied Sciences (INMAS) New Delhi imparted session on nuclear medicine and its application in Thyroid and SPECT/CT Imaging and said that he was much impressed by the infrastructure of the department at Kasturba Hospital.

Dr Pankaj Dougall, chief consultant Nuclear Medicine Max Health Care , Delhi   spoke on nuclear medicine and paediatrics and Bone Spect Imaging and said that the patients of the large orthopaedic department at Kasturba Hospital will gain much from the dual edged gama camera.

Dr Vikram Lele chief of nuclear medicine, Jaslok Hospital and Research Center Mumbai made his presentation on Brain SPECT Imaging and Cardiac SPECT Imaging emphasized the applications of nuclear medicine in neurology and cardiology. Dr R S P Rao, dean KMC, Manipal and Dr D P Saraswat COO and MS Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, were also present on the occasion.
