Mangaluru, Nov 15: The accused in the case where a woman aged 69 years at Alape Padil in Mangaluru was raped has been convicted. Only the sentence is yet to be pronounced.
Nagesh (25) is the convicted person. Judge Pushpanjali from the 6th additional district sessions and the special court on rape case has delivered the verdict.
The victim woman, a mother of four children lived alone in her house at Alape as her two daughters lived abroad and two sons lived separately in Mangaluru. One of her daughters was building a house for her family next to the woman’s house. A contractor from Bajal had taken the contract to build the house. A labourer who had come to work for the same project named Nagesh from Chinthamani, Chikkaballapur stayed behind the house of the woman in a makeshift shed.
As per the case details, on June 14, 2013 at around 7.15 pm, Nagesh knocked her rear door and she opened. Nagesh later entered the house and threatened her by showing knife and attempted to rape her. The old woman pleaded Nagesh saying he was younger than her own children and she should not to be subjected to misery as she was old. The accused did not stop. The woman again told Nagesh that she was not well. But the accused raped her with biting her on her face and lips. Then the accused took Rs 50,000 worth jewellery and Rs.5500 cash from the woman’s house and had fled.
The neighbours later come to the woman’s house. A police complaint on the rape was lodged at Mangaluru rural police station.
The manhunt was launched immediately. The next day the police managed to find the Nagesh in a nearby forest sleeping on a rock with stolen goods.
Inspector Ravish Nayak had investigated and presented the charge sheet. The special court who heard the case had examined 21 witnesses. Public prosecutor Shivaprasad had represented the prosecution.
The accused, now the convict did not admit to the guilt and had argued that he had lent Rs. 10000 to the woman and since he demanded the money back from her she had accused him of rape.
Sentence will be pronounced on November 18.
