Udupi, Nov 16: Udupi district in charge minister Vinaya Kumar Sorake inaugurated Rajiv Gandhi Rural sports meet today at Kaup.
The sports meet is sponsored by Kaup block backward communities section in association with Kaup, Uliaragoli, Majur and Mallaru local units. The venue of the sports meet is Kaup high school grounds.
“I am happy to inaugurate this sports meet in the name of Rajiv Gandhi, the leader who fought for social justice. Rajiv Gandhi implemented Panchayat Raj for uplifting the poor and downtrodden. I appreciate the efforts of Kaup block Congress who are working for the unity of the people by holding this sports meet” said Vinaya Kumar Sorake.
Kaup block Congress President Naveen Chandra Shetty presided over the function. Deekshitha Acharya, the heroine of ‘Rang’ Tulu film which celebrated 100 days run recently was present and she wished well for the sports meet.
Former MP K Jayaprakash Hegde, KPCC secretary M A Gaphoor, Udupi Zilla Panchayat former president Sarasu D Bangera, Congress Seva Dal district president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, DCC vice president Kaup Divakar Shetty, Kaup gramodharaka Sangha secretary Madhav R Palan, Kaup block backward community president Deepak Kumar Yermal were present.
Rajyotsava award winners from the district Lakshman Suvarna, Manohar Kundar, state sports Ratna award winner Devendra Kotian, Cricketer Y Jayakar Yermal, Social worker Ravi Kumar, Body builder Rakshith Suvarna were honoured during the occasion.
The procession with the torch was held from Rajiv Bhavan to the sports meet place. Vinaya Kumar Sorake, Deekshitha Acharya and K Jayaprakash Hegde took part in the procession.
Taluk Panchayat member Girishkumar, Sumana Kishore, Katpady Grama Panchayat president Vinay Ballal, Kote Grama Panchayat president Prashanth Jathanna, Geetha Wagde, Sandhya Shetty, H Abdulla, Vishwas Ameen, Abdul Aziz, Vasudeva Rao, Nagesh Suvarna, Prabhakar Poojary, Keshava Hejamadi, Kishore Kumar and Yermal Surendra Shetty were also present among others.
