Mangaluru, Nov 17: Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes citizens rights protection committee and various other scheduled castes and scheduled tribes organizations held a protest in front of D C office on November 17.
The protest was organized to demand the special land revenue act for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
A protest rally was organized from Jyothi circle to D C office by the several organizations.
Addressing the protesters, Maranappa Nayak Puttur said, "Since many years, government has been allotting the land. But even after 67 years of Independence, only few people have benefited. We request the authorities to wake up at least now and do justice to our rights."
District organizer R C Kembare said, "Huge portions of lands are being allotted to corporates, but the land legally belonging to schedule castes and schedule castes are being illegally occupied by the powerful people of the society. We have come together to demand for our rights. We do not have any political intentions. We also wish to live with dignity and happily in society like other people. Do not involve politics into this and do not test our patience."
Chandra Kumar from scheduled castes and scheduled tribes citizens rights protection samithi, Padmanaba Rai, Somanatha Rai Puttur, Ramesh Bogi and others were present during the protest.
A Memorandum was given to deputy commissioner demanding for the special Land Revenue Act.
