New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS): Hockey India League (HIL) Wednesday appointed Henrik Ehlers as the umpires manager for the tournament to be held Jan 22-Feb 22.
Ehlers officiated 178 international matches and became an international hockey federation (FIH) umpires manager in 2010.
Speaking on the appointment, Hockey India CEO Elena Norman said, “Henrik Ehlers is an established name in the field and fraternity of hockey internationally and we are glad to have him on board with us for the third edition of the Hockey India League."
"With his expertise and experience, both in and out of the field, I am certain that the league is just going to get better and better. I would like to congratulate and welcome Henrik Ehlers on board.”
Ehlers has umpired in four Olympics (Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008), three World Cups (Utrecht 1998, Kuala Lumpur 2002, Germany 2006) and three Champions Trophy (1997 in Adelaide, 1998 in Lahore and 2000 in Amsterdam), and some other prominent tournaments.
His experience as an umpires manager includes the 2010 Euro Hockey League (EHL) Round 1 (Barcelona), 2011 FIH Champions Challenge II (Lile), 2012 FIH Champions Trophy (Melbourne), and 2014 men's World Cup (the Netherlands).
