Rourkela, Nov 16: The process to select the Indian hockey team for the upcoming Doha Asiad began today with the selectors subjecting the 22 probables to a rigorous fitness test at the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium here.
Three selectors - Ajit Pal Singh, Harmik Singh and Surinder Singh Sodhi - arrived yesterday and the fourth selector Gurbux Singh reached here this morning from Kolkata.
The selectors are likely to complete the process of selection by tomorrow, IHF sources said.
IHF Secretary K Jothikumaran is expected to arrive later in the day to oversee the process and the 16-member squad would be announced by IHF President KPS Gill in New Delhi, the sources said.
The selected Indian team will play a practice match against a Rourkela XI here on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the two goalkeeping coaches, Joseph Cramer and Frank Leister of the Netherlands, specially deputed by the IHF to train goalkeepers, left here today after a six-day coaching stint.
The camp will continue till November 22.
Captain Dilip Tirkey joined the camp on his return here after a stint in the Dutch hockey league.
