Bengaluru, Nov 28: Three Congress MLCs V S Ugrappa, H M Revanna and Jabbar Khan on Thursday termed the Karnataka High Court interim judgement allowing continuation of "Made Snana" ritual in its traditional form at KukkeSubramanyaswami temple at Subramanya as "unconstitutional."
The ruling party MLCs have urged the Siddaramaiah Government to file a Special Leave Petition (SPL) in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict.
"The High Court judgment is against the Articles 17, 19 and 51 (A) of the Constitution," they argued and demanded that the State Government should take immediate steps to oppose it.
The High Court passed the interim order on a review petition filed by some of the employees of the temple questioning the modification of the ritual by the government.
Ugrappa said Sri Vishweshateertha Swami of Pejawar Math, who defended the practice of Made Snana, should explain to the people the benefits of the ritual.
Law minister, T B Jayachandra, said on Thursday November 27 that there is no change in the stand of the government against continuance of Made Made Snana ritual. He confirmed that the government has filed an appeal against the HC judgment in the SC. In the meanwhile, chief minister, Siddaramaiah, also said that in his personal view, Made Made Snana should be banned. Speaking at Midigeshi village in Madhugiri taluk, he said the government would be filing appeal against the HC verdict on the issue.
