Mangaluru, Nov 29: Relating to a case filed in Sullia police station by the father of a girl against a boy of a different religion who was accused of abducting the girl, a single judge bench of the state high court, on Friday November 28, granted interim stay of six weeks against conducting investigation in the case.
The petitioner, Bharatraj, who has been accused of abducting a 19-year-old Insha, brought to the notice of the single judge bench presided over by Justice A N Venugopal Gowda, that he and the girl had married on their own accord. Their marriage was solemnized in a hall in Sullia taluk on Novembger 19 this year.
The marriage was conducted as per Hindu customs. On the date of the marriage, the girl's father had filed a complaint in Ullal police station, alleging that Bharatraj had abducted his daughter.
The bench adjourned the case, and ordered issuance of notice to the additional state public prosecutor as well as the girl's father to file objections.
Bharataraj submitted that both he and the girl were not minors, and that the girl had married him out of her own will. He Prayed for cancellation of the abduction complaint lodged against him, terming the complaint as false and fabricated. He also provided certain documents to prove his claims.
