Mangalore, Nov 19: As many as 10 persons will be conferred with the ‘Alva’s Nudisiri Award 2006’ for their outstanding services in the promotion of Kannada culture and language, said Alva’s Education Trust Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, he said Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade will confer the award to Dr Patila Puttappa (journalism), Dr Yenagi Balappa (theatre), Dr M Chidananda Murthy (research), Jayanthi (cinema), Nadoja Geetha Nagabhushan (literature), Dr Hampa Nagarajaiah (research), Dr Na D’Souza (literature), C Ashwath (light music), Malpe Ramdas Samaga (yakshagana) and Ibrahim Naa Suthara (harmony).
As a part of Nudisiri, ‘Kavi Samaya-Kavi Namana,’ a unique poets’ meet will be held on all the three days. The meet will be attended by renowned poets like Malathi Pattana Shetty, Thulasi Venugopal, Ha Ma Kanaka, Lalitha Siddabasawaiah, Raziya D B, Dr Radhakrishna Bellur, Prof Madhavi Bhandary, Ananda Jandaravada and others. The poets will talk about the inspiration to their poems. M S Giridhar and his troupe will sing the poems while S Anand will pictorially represent the poems.
Dr Alva said many well-known cultural troupes from across the State will stage various cultural programmes on the occasion. On the first day, the students of an AEF will present three plays directed by Jeevan Ram Sullia. Besides, various troupes will also perform folk dance and ‘Yakshagana thalamaddale.’ The second day of the conference will have dance performance by actor Sridhar and Anuradha Sridhar, folk songs, light music, yakshagana and drama.
On the concluding day, the music lovers will be treated with “Bhavasinchana” by singers Ashwath, Shankar Shanbogh, Puttur Narasimha Nayak, Sureka, M S Giridhar, Vasudha, Krishna Karanth and Sangeetha Balachandra among others.
More than 50 well-known publishers will set up stalls at the venue. There will also be exhibition cum sale of CD, cassettes, posters, photos of artists and cotton textiles, he added.
