Mangalore, Nov 20: One person was killed and several others were injured when two private buses collided with each other on the National Highway 17 in front of the Shri Chandramoulishwara Temple Road at Kolnad near Mulki here on Sunday November 19 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Dayanand (46), the driver of the service bus that was on its way to Udupi from Haleangadi.  The accident occurred when the service bus collided with a city-bound express bus.  The impact of the accident was such that the front portions of both the buses were completely damaged.  Both the drivers were stuck in between the debris.

It was owing to long strenuous efforts by locals and police that drivers were pulled out.  However, Dayanand had already breathed his last by then.  The other driver and several other passengers have been admitted to hospital.  Most of them have sustained fractures, while a few others have sustained critical injuries.

Mulki police have registered a case in this regard.
