Udupi, Nov 20: Experienced campaigner Kota Srinivas Poojary has been unanimously elected president of BJP district unit. The election was held at a meeting held in the Govinda Kalyana Mantapa here recently. The meeting was presided over by MLA K Raghupati Bhat.
Gujjadi Prabhakar Nayak was the election officer. District-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, BJP Yuva Morcha president Suresh Nayak and former district committee president K Lakshminarayana felicitated Kota Srinivas Poojary on the occasion.
Kota Srinivas Poojary is one of the stalwarts of BJP in the district for long. He carries with him long experience of organizing BJP units at various levels. At present he is the opposition party leader in the ZP. He was also the general secretary of the district committee in the past. However, his attempts to win MLA election from his Brahmavar constituency have not yet been realized as he has always come cropper against K Jayaprakash Hegde in the last 3 elections.
But some internal sources have already said that election of Kota Srinivas Poojary has not been unanimous as portrayed. Members from Kaup unit complained the elections were carried out when they were protesting against Nagarjuna Power Project at Yellur.
Their main complaint has been that another senior leader Katapadi Shankar Poojary was not considered for the post despite possessing all the credentials for the same. But during the elections he was at Nagarjuna site along with MP Manorama Madhwaraj, Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon and others.
