Kundapur: Teacher held for 'sexual assault' on seven-year-old

Kundapur, Dec 3: A teacher was taken into custody and handed over to the women's police station here by Kollur police in connection to a complaint of sexually harassing a seven-year-old girl student. A complaint about sexual harassment had been registered by the girl's parents in Kollur police station.

The victim in this case is a second standard student of the government higher primary school in Kollur. It is said that during school hours on Tuesday December 2, physical education teacher of the school, Shantappa, pinched the girl's thigh. As the pinch was quite strong, the girl experienced acute pain, and let out loud wails. Blood had clotted at the spot.

The family members of the girl registered complaint in Kollur station immediately after they came to know about the incident.

Kollur police, who arrested Shantappa, handed him over to the women's police station here. As the case falls under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, the accused teacher was produced in Udupi court, it is gathered.

    I think the parents done a right thing by lodging complaint about this teacher. How can he pinch a 2nd std. student so hardly on her thigh? All teachers should think twice before raising their hands to the students.

    The teacher should have been booked under physical assault or corporal punishment rather than sexual assault. I wonder how POCSO charges applicable here. Keeping female teachers is not good idea since there is growing case of female teachers abusing minors ( Please refer Jaipur case today where a woman harassed a minor and chopped his genitals )

    Its the time to start without any further delay Engineering, medical, PG and such other schools/colleges for girls separately wher we can stop such sexual/criminal activities and the parents of girls can have peaceful life to some extent...no doubt we have some girls schools, it needs to be extended every where and Higher education colleges to be started as soon as possible......

    The only way to stop such happening is to bring suitable law and order and then a good upbringing in us is also required. Three four decades ago too teachers used to punish students to the extent that they stopped going to school inspite of parents intervention.

    Looking at the growing incidents of of pedophilic assaults, it is advisable for girls to be sent to 'girls only schools', this will save trouble for both the victims and the accused abusers, but then there also could be a cliche in that of the risk of some from the LGBT community in same sex schools!!!
