Mangalore, Nov 22: The cops of the Mangalore Rural police station along with the High Patrol Squad intercepted a lorrry bearing Reg. No. TN-27-L-4369 at Pumpwell on Nov 21 at 8.30 am.

The operation was conducted based on credible information that spirit was being illegally transported. A total of 280 cans of rectified spirit (each carrying 35 litres) was found being transported illegally.

Sumod C R (30) and Sunil K V (26) of Kerala State have been arrested. The Lorry has also been seized. The total worth of the spirit seized is Rs 5. 2 lac

A case has been registered in Mangalore Rural police station under the Karnataka Excise Act. Both the accused arrested have been produced before the JMFC III court and remanded for judicial custody.

It is learnt that the spirit was being transported from Tamil Nadu to Cochin, Kerala.
