Udupi, Nov 22: In one of the biggest thefts in recent times in the city, thieves who broke open into a jewellery shop here have decamped with jewels worth several lacs on Monday November 20 night.
The theft took place in Padmashree Jewellers at Thenkapete near Car Street here. The thieves have gained entry into the jewellers by removing the tiles on the roof. The thieves have stolen several gold ornaments including necklaces, chains, kariamani. The total worth of the stolen ornaments is estimated at Rs 7.25 lac.
This is the second time that theft has taken place in Padmashree Jewellers of late. It was almost 4 months ago, that thieves had broken into Padmashree Jewellers and decamped with several ornaments. A complaint in this regard had been filed in the town police station then.
On Tuesday November 21, Padmashree Jewellers' owner S Prabhakar has filed a complaint in the town police station with regards to the present theft.
