Puttur, Nov 22: Relatives of a person who died owing to snakebite gathered in the hospital premises and took the hospital staff to task for negligence at Noojibaltila here.

One Anantram (45), a resident of Nekkiladi near Kadaba had been rushed to St Thomas Hospital at Noojibaltila after he was bitten by a poisonous snake while working in the fields on Monday November 20.  Though he showed signs of improvement initially, his situation turned worse in the night.

At this point, the hospital authorities requested the relatives of the patient to shift to another hospital.  But by the time he was shifted to other hospital, Anantram had breathed his last.

Enraged by this, his relatives gathered in the hospital premises on Tuesday and blamed the hospital authorities of negligence.  The situation grew tensed and gave way to verbal brawl.  But immediate intervention by Kadaba police brought the situation under control.

The relatives of Anantram complained with MLA Shakuntala Shetty that the said hospital had not secured license and that proper action should be taken against it.

Meanwhile Fr Jacob of St Thomas Hospital has clarified the matter and said that none of the patients have been neglected in the hospital.
