Mangalore, Nov 24: Is Daijiworld's recent report hinting at the possibility of the early resumption of the Mangalore-Hassan train service being expedited solely because of pressure from the people of northern Malabar in Kerala coming true?
Much proof was available as Southern Railway general manager announced in Subramanya on Tuesday that the much-awaited and much-needed train service between Mangalore and Bangalore would commence from January next.
He along with other officials inspected the new broadgauge line and said that the works have been completed and already goods train service has commenced on the new track.
He said that work on the railway stations on the route and installing signals were progressing and certificate from the Railway Safety Commissioner for introducing passenger train was awaited.
Patty said that about Rs 400 Crore had been spent so far. Two trains between Mangalore and Bangalore via Hassan, Arasikere and Tumkur would be run initially.
