Mangaluru: VHP bandh on Dec 8 - Sec 144 imposed in Ulaibettu

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Updated

Mangaluru, Dec 7: Hours after VHP and Bajrang Dal called for bandh on Monday December 8 in Ulaibettu, Gurpur and surrounding areas in the wake of December 5 communal clash, the city police declared imposition of Section 144 in the affected areas as a precautionary measure.

The order has been issued by city police commissioner R Hitendra.

As per the order, Section 144 will be imposed in Ulaibettu and surrounding areas in a radius of 1.5 km.

All essential services, religious places and schools will be exempted and will function as normal, the commissioner stated.

Prasad Attavar supports bandh

Meanwhile, Rama Sena leader Prasad Attavar, in statement to the media, expressed strong support to the bandh called by VHP and Bajrang Dal.

Condemning the alleged attack on Datta Peetha pilgrims on the night of Friday December 5, Attavar has also urged the state governmnet, the district administration and the police department to take proper action against those responsible.

"If such activities are not controlled, the police departmnet, the district administration and the state government will be fully responsible for any untoward act done by us in the coming days," Prasad Attavar warned.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: In the wake of communal clashes that erupted at Ulaibettu on the night of Friday December 5, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have called for a bandh on Monday, December 8 in Gurpur and Ulaibettu.

This was revealed at the joint press conference at VHP Karyalaya near PVS circle here on Sunday December 7.

As per details, the VHP and Bajrang Dal along with other like-minded outfits will take out a rally starting at Gurpur junction from 10 am on December 8.

Gurpur Edapadavu, Bajpe, Yekkur, Kateel, Kaikamba, Vamanjoor and Neermarga will observe bandh from 6 am to 6 pm.

Jitendra Kottari of VHP criticized the state government for the unrest in the area and termed it responsible for the consequences.

"Datta Jayanti has been going on for years. On December 5, at Ulaibettu when Datta Jayanti devotees were moving in a bus, some Muslims stopped the bus and attacked them saying they should not wear saffron colour and walk in that area. The clash erupted when two Datta Peetha devotees were attacked. When the activists were going to the police station to complain about the incident, around 300 Muslims attacked them with lethal weapons. They also attacked women. Hindu organizations condemns this.

"We have been very patient even though so many such incidents have taken place against Hindus. We sometimes protested. But this Ulaibettu incident is unacceptable. The protest march will proceed from Gurpur to Ulaibettu. Justice should be done in the atrocities which have taken place against Hindus. We also appreciate the work done by the police in this case," said Kottari.

Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell, Harish Kuttar and Puneet were present in the press meet.

If the Street dramas in the name of God,devotion & Religion increases then such untoward incidents also increase. About 25 years ago no one knew about this Datta Mala Abhiyana. Now a it has grown into big religious event. similar road show has started in our Maravuru-Kateel with a name " Ammanedege Namma Nadige" just last year and after few years it may become big public road show and lead to such Uliabettu type ugly incidents while passing through Bajpe.

God's Belief & devotion ( Devaru, Dharma & Bhakthi)should be always confined to 'Mana & Mane' that is it should be confined within our Mind and Home, and God & Religion should never be brought on the street. Religion is not for Public show but it is meant for ones mental peace.

Basically in DK and Udupi, in viiages, city suburbs people of all religion live with love and respect for each others.Only in certain pockets anti socials are intentionally creating trouble.Ulaibettu case is one of such event.I have lost hope of improvement in situation as long as govt perceive vote banking policy.Actually they want these type situation to cook their ganji.Thats why all our MLAs(half a dozen in DK only) are keeping quiet. In outside Mangalore ,the city is already paited as communally sensitive place which will serious jeopardise Dists interest in educational ,industrail .real estate areas in coming days.

I feel that no government or police or court can stop & defeat them, only the people can defeat them by not supporting such political party.

Nobody wants to live in Harmony. Some people from both community are gravely involved in Moral policing, attacks against each other and so forth. Are we heading to destruction of the beautiful city of Mangalore that has been the hub of Health, Education and tourism. Though the government of Karnataka and Centre will not ban these organisation, I feel the police should ensure that these outfits are kept under control. It will be for police to perform for Mangalore or allow mangalore to perish.

You make bandh no problem. Make sure you will pay each daily waged workers 500 Rupees to feed their family. Or else they and their dependent kids will curse you for not getting their food... So make sure you will not get cursed by the innocent kids who wait for their family members daily earning for their next day food..!

Very thoughtful comments. The business loss for the trader, livelihood loss for daily wage worker, mental trauma for the locals, money spent for such useless bundh etc will not be acceptable in the sight of creator each of us believe.

WHAT WE GOING TO GAIN WITH THIS BANDH? IS THAT BANDH GOING TO SERVE THE PURPOSE OR JUST DISTURBING THE PUBLIC LIFE? ADMINISTRATION SHOULD NOT ALLOW ANY TYPE OF BANDH WHICH MAKES POOR PEOPLE TO SUFFER FOR THEIR DAILY BREAD.

Till these VHP and BD are there it will surely spoil the name of religion as well. Don't simply support them. They are spoiling you own religion.

I support the bandh here, though I am normally diametrically opposite to their thinking!! NO ONE HAS BUSINESS TO STOP ANY PILGRIM, BE IT HAJJ, VELANKANI, DATTA PEETHA, SHABARI MALA, URUS, EID, MONTI FEST OR GANESH CHATURTHI OR CAR FESTIVAL!!!
atleast dont take up law and say you are protecting the road!! it is not your job!..

BJP used VHP's efforts of late 80s in ram janmabhoomi abhiyaan and kept his fate hanging!.. when VHP?RSS gave a massive mandate in 2008 to yeddy, they started infighting, went behind mining lobby, embarassed the voters and brought the whole people to shame.. when such hindus voted against same govt, Siddramayya's govet to power and he continued his appeasement hindu hanan!!.... there have been so many communal incidences in last 1.5 yrs, I feel siddu and george have been protecting the miscreants and arresting the innocents! ... call the bandh and prove u too are watching everything!

This was yesterday statement by police commissioner R Hitendra
"the bus carrying Datta Peetha pilgrims was about to go through a newly-laid road that was yet to be inaugurated at Ulaibettu. Barricades had been put up and locals who saw the bus passing by, tried to stop it, saying that the road was not yet opened for public. However, the pilgrims bus did not stop"
But why these all pilgrims troubling unnecessary others? am not here justifying pelting stone on them but have some rules regulation they must be followed. After all they also pelting stone on Masjid and other Muslims houses.
Law is equal for all there is no minority or majorities but here all goons take each and very incident for political benefits also we noticed same night when incident happens police also torture Muslims houses arrested most of innocents youth without any evidence.

Law should be equal to all...unfortunately in Karnataka for Siddu and George it is no so...
It is different for Konaje forced sex case,
Kavoor case,Gangolli case.Ulaibettu case.Ullal etc.,and more importantly in Sringeri Kabeer case ...so on...

Mr Vellano...I agree with you totally wen u said nobody has the right to stop any pilgrim..This incident is a pure show of ego from both the parties as you also are smart enough to understand this..Both the parties abused and retaliated each other by pelting stones at the bus and pelting stones at the mosque..Hogayana hisaab barabar..Now why bundh ..? Us se kya faida hai kisiko ..? Can u please explain..?

tune dus maara, aur maine dus maara.. idhar hisaab barabar nahi hota!! ... u need to stop this!

everywhere it is the same case.. be it godhra ...or gangolli... or vamanjoor!! ..... tum sirf start karte ho.. DOSSRE STOP KARTE HAIN!!! .. this MUST STOP!!!

if the govt is sympathetic to miscreants and sleeping, to wake up them such JOLTS are required!! abhi kaise sec 144 impose ho gaya?...

shuruvaad karte hi kyun ho? ye kya IRAQ, PAKISTAN, NIGERIA, SYRIA hai? ki doosre chup chap baithenge?! Apne logon ko ek haat sabak sikhao.. tell them all this is not required! no person, will stop u from doing it!

If you appreciate the work done by police, then why call for bandh?
Disrupting public life & hitting those who depend on daily wages is far greater attack on their Freedom than this attack which needs peaceful protest rather than resort to illegal call for bandh which is against the orders issued by Courts in India.
Hope people will stop supporting disruptive elements in society which want these clashes to bolster their standing in society.
