Udupi, Nov 25: The protest against the on-going work on the proposed Nagarjuna power project was fuelled further with Nagarjuna Virodhi Horata Samiti president Pramod Madhwaraj declining to hold talks with chief minister Kumaraswamy unless work on the power plant is stopped.
Speaking to press persons here on Thursday November 23 after a meeting on the issue, Madhwaraj said that Kumaraswamy was backing away from the promise he had made to Pejawar Shri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji Pejawar Math of halting the works on the power plant. He alleged that by doing so, the chief minister was making further talks impossible.
The protest gained further momentum with the decision taken at the meeting to mobilise one lac people to join the agitation. Mangalore, Kaup, Malpe and Byndoor have been identified as four zones which will join the movement led by their respective convenors. Fishermen, farmers, environmentalists and students from the four zones will participate.
Madhwaraj also announced that a special general body meeting of Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha will be held to discuss the issue.
Among those present were committee working president Lakshman Shetty, vice president Katapadi Shankar Poojary, organising secretary Ramesh Kanchan, assistant Sudhakar Karkera, Prabhakar Inna, Premananda Kalmady and Jayant Kumar.
