Mangalore, Nov 25: The renovated "Holy Cross" Church of Eliarpadavu near here was inaugurated by Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore on Thursday November 23.

Speaking on the occasion he appreciated the generosity and benevolence of the parishioners.  "If this church is renovated, it is owing to your goodwill and hardwork.  It is the fruit of your sacrifices," he said.

The church with almost 180 families comes under the purview of Mangalore South varado.  Most of the parishioners are agriculturists.

The day began with solemn Eucharistic celebration by Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza.  Parish priest Fr Reginald Pinto and priests from surrounding parishes concelebrated the Eucharist.

Former parish priests of the church Fr Victor D'Souza, Fr Richard Saldanha, Fr Peter Fernandes, Fr Rocky D'Souza and Fr Austine Peris were honoured by Bishop during the stage programme.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza who is completing 40 years of his priestly life was honoured by parish priest Fr Reginald Pinto on behalf on the parishioners.

The renovation works had been started on August 15 and within 100 days the renovated church was blessed.  This indeed itself is a miracle, said parish priest Fr Reginald Pinto in his introductory remarks.

Parish council vice-president William Wilfred D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks while Jayaprakash D'Souza compered the programme.
