Mangalore, November 25: ‘Kalotsava’, Cultural Fest for the specially-abled children was organized under the auspices of The Society for the Welfare of the Disabled on Saturday November 25 at the Parvati Babu Shetty Memorial Hall, S D M Mangalajyothi Integrated School, Vamanjoor near here.

Deputy commissioner M Maheshwara Rao, inaugurated the function.

Addressing the gathering, he said that the government respects the abilities of the disabled.  He also assured that reservations and employment opportunities exclusively for such people are allotted by the state.

Mentally-challenged, physically-disabled and blind children representing their respective schools took part in the fest. Eleven schools from the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada participated.

The event was unique in terms of its nature of competitions. No rules were laid down. Each school was given fifteen minutes and they were asked to present any creative or cultural act.

Secretary of the Society of the Welfare of the Disabled, Prof A Rajendra Shetty and Fr Dennis D’Souza, administrator of Fr Muller Hospital were present on the occasion.
