Udupi, Nov 25: Barkur, a historical little town near Brahmavar here which had almost been disconnected from other parts of the taluk since the connecting bridge was under repairs, is now gearing up once again to get connected.
The renovated bridge will be thrown open for public use on Monday November 26. A bright smile could be seen on the faces of people after a gap of two years ever since the bridge had been declared unfit for use. People had either rely on ferry boats or buses that plied via Sastan-Kota-Manoor to Barkur for all this long.
But now that the bridge work is over, everyone is now waiting eagerly to pass through the bridge. As of now people are walking on the bridge for the last 10 days while vehicles will be allowed only from Monday. Invitations have been printed by the gram panchayat and guests have been invited to witness this auspicious ceremony. PWD department is clearing up the road, beautifying the either side by chopping the bushes and plants in view of the inauguration.
