Udupi, Nov 27: The 48th divisional conference of insurance employees was held as part of the golden jubilee year celebrations of insurance employees union, district division on Sunday November 26 at Mahila Samaja Sabhabhavana, Ajjarkad here.

Speaking on the occasion, All India Insurance Employees Association (AIIEA) chief secretary condemned the introduction of foreign direct investment into the insurance sector.

He alleged that the central government is not doing much for the labour class in unorganised sectors and said that though the government claims to have achieved a growth in GDP, the agriculture sector is suffering loss.

He elaborated on the achievements of Life Insurance Corporation of India and said that 90 per cent of the insurance business in the country is covered by the company, with over 19 crore policies under its fold.

The programme was presided over by district division Insurance Employees Association president Prabhakar Kunder. Winners of various competitions were presented with prizes.

Among those present were south-central zone Insurance Employees' Federation chief secretary V Ramesh, president B Rajendra Kumar, vice president Bhaskar Somayaji, joint secretary J Suresh, CITU state committee president and Insurance Employees Association former leader B Madhav and others.
