Security beefed up at Tihar jail

New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS): Internal security at the Tihar jail was beefed up Friday following intelligence inputs about the possibility of terrorist attacks at various prominent places across India, including Delhi.

"There was no input regarding terror threat on Tihar as of now but we put our internal staff on alert. The internal alert will remain in place for the coming days," Deputy Inspector General (Tihar) Mukesh Prasad told IANS.

"All the prisoners, including Pakistani prisoners, are under watch. The staff have been asked to increase the vigil near the cell and barrack," Prasad added.

Tihar, the largest prison complex in South Asia, has around 12,000 inmates, including 17 Pakistanis, against its capacity to accommodate 6,000 prisoners across its nine jail complexes.
