US drone kills eight militants in Pakistan

Islamabad, Dec 19 (IANS): At least eight militants were killed in a US drone strike Friday along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, a media report said.

The drone targeted a militant compound in Cort village of Afghanistan's Nazyan district, reported Dawn citing intelligence sources.

According to security officials, the militants based in Nazyan district had planned the devastating attack on the army-run public school in Peshawar, which killed 148 people, including 132 school children, and injured scores of others.

Meanwhile, scores of people were also reportedly injured on the zero line, which has been serving as a safe haven for the Mullah Fazllullah-led Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Pakistani security forces carried out ground offensives in Khyber Agency, particularly the Tirrah Valley of Bara which borders with Nazyan.

Eighteen militants were killed in the ground offensive late Thursday night in Khyber Agency, while earlier in the day, at least 32 terrorists in Wurmagai and Spurkot areas of Tirrah valley were killed in an operation as they were heading towards Afghanistan.
