Mangaluru, Dec 20: A man was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Nanthoor here on Saturday December 20.
The deceased has been identified as Ashok (60). His body was found wrapped in a blanket in the back of a mini lorry.
It is learnt that the mini lorry in which the body was found came from Haryana. About 10 days ago, it left from Haryana to Kerala, carrying plywood. On the way back from Kerala, it halted in Mangaluru about three or four days back.
Inter-state lorries stop at Himalayan transport agency near Nanthoor to verify documents. This lorry too had stopped there. On Saturday, some persons sensed foul smell emanating near the lorry, and on inspecting, found the body in it. They immediately informed the police.
Ashok was cleaner of the lorry. The identity of the lorry driver is yet to be ascertained. It is suspected that he might be absconding.
Injury marks were found on Ashok's neck, indicating that foul play might have been involved. As the body was decomposed, it is suspected that he might have died about three or four days ago.
Police said that they are trying to locate the driver of the lorry and further details would be known only after he is found.
The owner of the mini lorry is said to be Malkan Singh from Haryana.
The body has been shifted to Wenlock hospital for post-mortem.
Kadri police arrived at the spot and registered a case.
