PDP claims support of 55 legislators

Jammu, Dec 31 (IANS): PDP president Mehbooba Mufti told Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra Wednesday that her party had the support of 55 legislators in the 87-seat assembly to form a stable government.

Mehbooba Mufti did not specify if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with 25 legislators, was supporting her but made a pointed laudatory reference to former prime minister and now ailing BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader met the governor for about 90 minutes at the Raj Bhavan in this winter capital, official sources told IANS.

Mehbooba Mufti later told the media: "We have the support of 55 MLAs. It is our intention that a stable government is formed to address the huge problems faced by the people in the state.

"We want that the agenda of development and peace should be carried forward. We want Atal Bihari Vajpayee's peace process (with Pakistan) to be carried to its logical conclusion," she added.

She, however, did not specify if a PDP-BJP alliance will take office in the state although most pundits believe that will be the case.

The PDP and BJP together command 53 legislators. The BJP won all its seats in the Hindu-majority Jammu region and the PDP won all but two seats in the overwhelmingly Muslim Kashmir Valley.

It was not clear which two other legislators propose to back the PDP-BJP government. The People's Conference of former militant Sajad Lone has two members in the house and he had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The National Conference, which was voted out in the election, won 15 seats and the Congress, its estranged ally, 12. Seven seats went to independents and smaller parties including two to Lone's party.

Amid the political uncertainty that followed the hung verdict, the BJP held discussions with the National Conference but there was opposition to partnering with the BJP within the National Conference.

Vohra sent separate letters to the PDP and the BJP for discussions on government formation.

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav called on Vohra Tuesday along with state party president Jugul Kishore.

..BJP & PDP ideology wise north & south pole..but NC/Congress being rival parties all these years, since people also rejected them it is difficult for PDP to make any tie up...Hope PDP leaders will not do a KEJRIWALL...they have to form a Govt with little sacrifice on their agenda..it will be good for state & nation considering this year overwhelming support of the people for Indian democracy...

I would still feel BJP should sit in opposition! Anyways, these PDP etc wont agree to a HINDU CM! and they wont give away Deputy CM or HOME MINISTRY!.. they wont let peaceful resettlement of displaced Kashmiri Pandits in the valley.. they are intolerant SECULARS!.. let Congress/PDP/NC come together and form a governemt, and fall on their own weight!

Anyways, since Hindu regions of Jammu is having all Hindu MLAs, lot of development can be done in this region with central govt help... and also buddhist region of Ladakh, which has chosen Congress can also be developed with central power projects etc... Until Army is there in valley, they cant do any smart moves! let them suffer and set their house on order, post that floods..! atleast for a year or two there wont be major tourism there!... If they dont like HINDUs and rest of India.. they should be treated in their own medicine!... secularism secularism khelte baithne do.. nafrat gol ke peete hain woh log!

    Before election

    Modi in a election rally

    referring to PDP,

    You people seen Father-daughter's rule...

    Referring NC

    You people seen Father-son's rule

Apart from that both NC and PDP were curse to democracy as both blocks are corrupt and family based business..Modi was quoted as saying!!!!

Now Modi's govt want to make friendship with both parties to form the govt!!!

Not only that PDP took assurances from Modi that article 370 and Military's special power (AFSPA) as per terms of PDP!!!!!!What a U turn Sarkar ab ki baar!!!

pdp or for that matter any other party could not form govt in jammu and kashmir without centre support(in this case bjp).

even if they form the govt without bjp,it will not get the required financial assistance for the state particularly in the aftermath of floods in kashmir.

so power sharing formula of first 3 years as bjp cm and next 3 years as pdp cm has to be materialised for a stable govt.

so modi has fulfilled his promise of first hindu cm for jammu and kashmir.

What we can say to this ...., Is BJP is becoming untouchable...., Against congi the opposition parties were integrated in 1977 & also in 1989 (only difference in the past it was before but now it is after)
Who knows ..., such integration of parties takes place going forward across Hindustan may be before election.
