UP: Two cops in Badaun rape 14-yr-old inside police station, suspended

Badaun, Jan 2(Hindustan Times):Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday directed strict action against two police constables who allegedly kidnapped and raped a 14-year-old girl inside the Musajhag police station in Badaun district on December 31.

After the CM's directive, additional director general of police (crime) HC Awasthi left for Badaun in the morning to coordinate with the district police in the investigation of the case and arrest of the absconding police constables.

The constables Veer Pal Singh Yadav and Avanish Yadav have been suspended and an FIR has been registered against them for allegedly kidnapping and committing rape of a girl. Police teams have been constituted to nab the constables who are on the run.

"On the night of December 31, my daughter went out of the house to address nature's call, while she was returning from the field the two police constables Veer Pal and Avanish pushed her in a car and sped to the police station," the girl's mother said.

"They locked my daughter in a room located in the police station. Later, they raped her and when her condition deteriorated they dumped her on the outskirts of the village at midnight," she said.

The girl narrated the episode to her mother. The father of the girl had gone to Bareilly for an eye surgery with some relatives.

On January 1, the girl along with her mother went to Musajhag police station to lodge a complaint against the constables but the station in-charge refused to pay any heed.

Later, she met city superintendent of police Lallan Singh and handed over her complaint. After the incident was highlighted by the media, an FIR was registered against the constables.

Badaun was in news after bodies of two teenage girls was found hanging from a tree in Katra Sadatganj village. The CBI has filed a closure report in the case.

In June 2011, a 14-year-old girl was raped and killed by policemen in Nighasan police station in Lakhimpur Kheri district. The CBI in its charge-sheet has indicted four policemen including a deputy superintendent of police.

OMG. No girl should go through this hell. I hope people in this forum and mainstream media will now ask for a ban on UP Police, may be arrest of the DGP also as they asked some school administrators to be arrested for negligence when rape happened inside the school. In India, everyone was someone to be blamed for every problem. No real measures are taken to prevent rape. Until citizens take active responsibility to take care of our mothers and sisters in our neighbourhood, these will keep happening. People will have to stop seeing this as a problem which government should take care, but develop safeguards on our own
