Kallianpur, Dec 16: The Humanities Association of Milagres  College, Kallianpur is curently organizing a two-day cultural festival “Artshine-06” on December 15 and 16 to highlight the rich cultural heritage of coastal Karnataka.

The purpose of this festival is to draw the youth to appreciate the cultural glory of this coastal area. Today’s world looks at machinery and materialism to create wealth. Fanaticism and racial violence are on the rise due to this. Whereas the karavali culture looks beyond machines. It shuns hatred and has one great passion - the passion for sweetness and light.

While speaking on the occasion Prof Hilda the co-ordinator of Humanities Association called upon the participants to emulate local culture i.e. tolerance and generosity.

Principal Fr Fred Mascarenhas, commented that polarization in the coastal belt was a dangerous trend and he advised the youth to develop an open mind. Udupi zilla panchayat president Shankar Poojary  after inaugurating Artshine-06 by unveiling the areca flower warned about the dangers posed by globalization which was destroying the local culture.

Dr Vinay Rajath, co-ordinator of the event  welcomed the gathering, Sunaina of III BA proposed the vote of thanks. Sara of I BA compered the programme.

Twelve teams from different colleges are taking part in the festival.
