Kundapur, Dec 21: The Kollur police have succeeded in cracking the murder case of one Leena (51), a resident of Jadkal near here on Wednesday December 20.  The police have arrested Deepu alias Joseph (22), a resident of Beesinapare.  He is said to have confessed his crime.

Leena was the wife of ex-service man John.  On December 12 she was admitted to hospital by her neighbours after she was found with serious burn injuries.  However, she had succumbed to the injuries on Monday December 18 in the hospital.

The neighbours had raised doubts about her death and had demanded a police enquiry into the matter.  Local Stri Shakti Group too had appealed the police towards this.  Accordingly the police had begun enquiry and within a day, they managed to arrest the accused Deepu based on the information collected from some locals.

The police said that Deepu had illegal relationship with Leena.  On December 12, he fought with Leena over a trivial matter.  The fight soon landed into physical assault.  An enraged Deepu hit Leena with a wooden club owing to which she fell unconscious.  Thinking that Leena had died, Deepu sprinkled kerosene on her body and set her ablaze before fleeing the place.  However, the neighbours noticed Leena and admitted her to the hospital.
