Mangalore, Dec 24: The city's own biological park Pilikula Nisarga Dhama has been made host to an eleven-day flower fest beginning Saturday December 23.
The fest being organized as part of the ongoing Karavali Utsav, was inaugurated by Suratkal MLA Krishna Palemar on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Pilikula Nisarga Dhama Society executive director J R Lobo said that climatic condition in the region does not hold good for cultivation of most of the plants and hence it is not easy to organize a show this kind in the city. He added that there are plans to set up a Western Ghat study centre to study the environment of the region.
Deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao said attempts would be made to host the show every year.
The hundreds of varieties of flowers and plants are a colourful delight to the visitors. Several of them have been displayed for the first time as they are not grown locally.
