Mangalore, Dec 26:
The foundation stone laying ceremony for the 30-tonne capacity ice plant was held here on Monday December 25. On the same occasion, foundation stones were also laid for ice manufacturing unit, cold storage and ‘Rani’ fish cutting unit.

Minister for fisheries and muzrai and district in-charge B Nagaraj Shetty and MLA N Yogish Bhat laid the foundation stones. They also inaugurated two high-mast lights installed for the fishermen.

The ice-plant will be built under the auspices of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC) Ltd. The ice manufacturing unit, cold storage and the fish cutting unit are being constructed under Mangalore Trawl Boat Fishermen Primary Cooperative Society while the high-mast lights have been installed by department of fisheries and Metro Cash and Carry India.

The ice-plant will be constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lac.

Among those present were Malpe and Mangalore Fishing Harbours Project coordinator and KFDC managing director V K Shetty, MCC corporator Sarala N Karkera, Metro Cash and Carry India (Bangalore) corporate communications head Manish Bhargav, and Mangalore Trawl Boat Fishermen Primary Cooperative Society president B Seetharam.
