Mangalore, Dec 27:
Alva’s Education Trust is all set to host ‘Alva’s Virasat,’ a national level cultural festival from Thursday January 4 to Sunday January 7 at Shobhavan in Mijar, Moodbidri near here.

 

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday December 26, Trust chairman Dr Mohan Alva informed that Odissi dance maestro Padmavibhushana Sonal Mansingh will inaugurate the fest while Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade will preside over the programme.

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Health Sciences (RGUHS) vice-chancellor Dr P S Prabhakaran, Moodbidri-Mulky MLA Abhyachandra Jain and former state minister K Amarnath Shetty will be the chief guests.

The highlight of the event will be the presence of internationally acclaimed tabla artiste Ustad Zakir Hussain who will present a performance and will be also conferred with ‘Alva’s Virasat 2007’ award.

There will be an art exhibition by Dr Mohan Alva which will be inaugurated on January 4 at 5.30 pm.

Ustad Zakir Hussain along with other artistes will perform a jugalbandi of north and south Indian music on January 4.

Among other musical programmes will be a performance by flutist Padmashri Dr Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan and group from Chennai and Mohiniyattam ‘Samarpanam’ by Gopikaverma, Chennai on January 5, a performance by noted singer S P Balasubramanyam on January 6, Hindustani classical music ‘Suswara’ by various musicians and a dance ‘Sacred Space’ by Lenny Fernandes and group from Bangalore on January 7.

The art exhibition will be open from 10 am to 10 pm on all days during the fest, Alva informed.
