Mangaluru, Jan 20: Dakshina Kannada youth Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to IGP Western Range Amrit Paul regarding the recent communal clashes that erupted near Uppinangady on January 20.

Dakshina Kannada youth Congress president Mithun Rai said, "We want a permanent solution for these communal clashes. Ullaibettu clashes were handled very well by the police department but the Puttur incident is getting out of control. The main reason for these clashes is provocative speech which has to be stopped. After 4 pm, permission should not be given to conduct such religious programmes, so that such incidents can be checked. Dakshina Kannada is known to be an educational hub. Because of these communal clashes students fear to come here for education."

"In the recent murder case of BJP activist and businessman Keshava Shetty, Moideen Bawa's name was unnecessarily dragged into the case and efforts were made to defame him. During police investigation it was revealed that he was murdered because of financial issues and ego clashes and nothing related with ganja. Such loose comments also need to be stopped by taking right action against the culprits. It makes them heroes but unnecessarily tarnishes the image of our leaders." He added.

Corporator Praveen Chandra Alva said, "Since the past five years a particular person has been giving provocative speeches but no action has been taken against him."

IGP Paul replied, "I joined here in June 2014. Since then incidents relating to moral policing, law and order have decreased and the police department is commited to taking appropriate action against the miscreants. Freedom of speech has its own limitations. No one is allowed to take law into their own hands. We will take necessary steps to curb the communal tension in this region."

Prior to this, the youth Congress leaders also gave a memorandom to the deputy commissioner regarding the ammendment in the land acquisition act through ordinance.
