Mangalore, Dec 29: The potential linked credit plan (PLP) was launched at the district consultative committee and district-level review committee meetings for development of banks in district at the zilla panchayat (ZP) auditorium here on Thursday December 28.
Speaking on the occasion, ZP CEO A M Kunjappa said that not all the branches of privatised and nationalised banks have disbursed enough loans for agriculture. He further stated that a sum of Rs 1603.22 crore might be released as agricultural loan in 2007-08.
He lauded the amount of development that has taken place in the city in the field of education and agriculture.
The 363 branches of different banks in the district have made a total business of Rs 13,209 crore as on September 2006. This amount includes deposit of Rs 8,085 crore and advances of Rs 5,124 crore.
The committee reviewed the performance of the banks as on September 2006, and implementation of district credit plan and government sponsored schemes.
Among those present were Reserve Bank of India manager Augustine, NABARD AGM K P Udupa, Syndicate Bank deputy general K U Shanghat and others.
