Mangalore Dec 29: Konkani Bhasha Mandal Karnataka, Mangalore will observe its foundation day at Nalanda High School Hall, V T Road here on January 2, 2007 at 5 pm.

Konkani Bhasha Mandal president Fr Eric Crasta speaking to the press said that the organization was founded on January 1, 1974 and ever since has been conducting several programmes all over the state.

On August 20, 1992, Konkani language was included into the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution and in March 1993 under the leadership of Chief Minister Veerappa Moily Karnataka Government announced the formation of the Konkani Academy.

The Konkani Bhasha Mandal (KBM) which has been working for the development of the language will observe its foundation day which will be presided over by K K Pai of Dr T M A Pai Foundation, Manipal.

Austin Prabhu, Chicago the founder secretary of the KBM, Nirmala Kamath, president of GSB Womens Board, Basti Vaman Shenoy, president of Konkani language and Culture Foundation, Paul Moras, president of All India Konkani Parishad will be the chief guests on the occasion.

‘Karmadeen’ a Konkani drama directed by Kasargod Chinna will be staged on the occasion.

Secretary Geetha C Kini and Convenor of the programme P Vithobha Bhandarkar were also present in the press meet.
