Pin removed successfully from 22-yr-old's lung at FMMCH

Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 5: A 22 year old female patient was admitted to Father Muller Medical College Hospital with a history of having accidentally swallowed a hair pin. On investigation the pin was found lodged in the Left bronchus (part of lung). Patient had visited many hospitals in Mangaluru but the pin could not be removed.

In Father Muller hospital she was successfully operated on by senior cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Suresh Pai with the help of anaethesiologist Dr Karl Ribiero. The pin was removed after a four hour long surgery. Because of the position of the pin and the close proximity to important structures, the operation had to done very carefully.

The patient is recovering well and will be discharged in a few days.
