One killed in Afghanistan blast


Kabul, Feb 10 (IAS): One person was killed and six others injured when a bomb targeted the vehicle of a member of provincial council in the eastern Afghan province Nangarhar Tuesday.

"A bomb targeted the vehicle of Nangarhar provincial council member, Angiza Shinwari at 1.30 p.m. today in (provincial capital) Jalalabad city, killing one person and injuring six others including Shinwari," an official told Xinhua news agency, but declined to be identified, saying authorised officials would brief the media after investigation.

Meanwhile, head of the Jalalabad civil hospital Hamayon Zahir confirmed to Xinhua that one body and six injured persons, including Shinwari, were brought to the hospital.

Jalalabad is 120 km east of Afghanistan's capital Kabul.

Spokesman for Nangarhar provincial government Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, speaking to reporters, also confirmed the blast, saying investigation has been initiated into the case.

This is the second violent incident since Tuesday morning in Afghanistan.

In the previous incident, five militants attacked a police station in the northern Kunduz city at 10.30 a.m. but all the attackers were killed.
