Congress-BJP Members Clash over BBMP Affairs

Bengaluru, Feb 12: Ruling Congress and BJP members clashed over the alleged irregularities in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

The clash between the Congress and BJP members in the House reached a tense situation and assembly speaker Kagodu Thimmappa had a tough time in bringing order.

The fracas erupted during the discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address to the joint session of the State Legislature, when Congress member Munirathna raised the issue of a BBMP Executive Engineer taking up works to the tune of Rs 98 crore in the Rajarajeshwari assembly constituency without any authorisatioj.

Irked over the personal accusations by the Congress member, Dr C N Ashwath Narayana (BJP) said the member (Munirathna) was speaking on the functioning of the BBMP without any valid proof.
“Be careful,’’ the Speaker cautioned Munirathna when he continued to make personal charges.

“You have misused the opportunity given,’’ Kagodu told Munirathna and asked him the take the chair.

Ramesh Kumar (Congress) too appealed to members to refrain from making personal charges.

“Earlier in response to Ravi Subramanya (BJP), who criticised various agencies functioning, the Speaker said "housing layouts had been formed only for denotification of lands and make money."

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao termed "BBMP and BDA" as sick units while Transport Minister B Ramalinga Reddy said the BBMP had not cleared bills worth Rs 3,700 crore since March last.

Bill to Appoint Chairman, MD fir BWSSB

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage (Amendment) Bill, 2015, was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday for appointment of the Chairman and the Managing Director and define powers and functioning of the BWSSB.

The Bill would amend the 1964 act of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage.

The Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (Amendment) Bill, 2015, was tabled in the House to exempt the procurement by the entity receiving grant from the government in case of infrastructure works of electrification of drinking water scheme the value of which does not exceed Rs 5 lakh.
