He had come on pilgrimage only a few days before the Hajj rites began in Minaz Hajj Tours and Travels, and was scheduled to return home on February 4. He was a businessman, known for his simplicity and generosity in and around Katapady.

He was popularly known as "Y M Brother" in the vicinity and had a wide social contact in the area.  He was active in the local administration body. He was involved in several social and religious activities in the area and was also former president of Katapady Jumma Masjid.

He is survived by wife, four sons and a daughter and a large number of relatives. The funeral rite was held in Makkah on Monday in the presence of his  brother, Y M Aboobakker, son Y M Mahboob in Jeddah, his nephew Abdul Lathief from Riyadh, Farook Manipal from Jeddah and other relatives, friends and well-wishers.

Many of his well-wishers and community leaders in Saudi Arabia have expressed grief over his sudden demise, which they said has created a void and great loss to the community in the region. They also offered their prayers for eternal rest and forgiveness to the departed.
