Sullia: Man accused of rape of Dalit girl arrested

Sullia, Feb 16: Police personnel attached to Subrahmanya station in the taluk, on Sunday February 15, arrested a person accused of establishing physical relationship with a Dalit girl after promising to marry her. He had gone missing after defrauding the girl, it is said.

The accused, identified as Suresh, was a jeep driver in Madappady. He was known to the girl in question since the last three years. Allegedly, he had invited the above girl from Hadikallu to the annual car festival at Kandrappady on March 14, 2014. During her visit to the temple, he had promised to marry her, and after earning her trust, had physical relationship with her. He was not to be seen thereafter.

The girl had filed a complaint in Subrahmanya police station in this respect on February 6. Later it transpired that Suresh was already married. He is also facing a court case relating to deserting his wife.

The arrested accused was produced in the court after which he was remanded to judicial custody.
