Karkala: Car on the move catches fire, partially burnt

Karkala, Feb 18: In an incident which occurred at Guddeangady near Ajekar in the taluk on Monday February 16, a Maruti Omni car that was moving towards its destination suddenly caught fire.

The vehicle in question belongs to Sanjeeva Poojary from Kadthala in the taluk. The Omni, which was bound for Ajekar, had two occupants, including its driver. When the vehicle was nearing Guddeangady, fire was caused because of fault in wiring. The driver immediately stopped the car and tried to extinguish the fire but did not succeed. Then he called the fire brigade.

As there was risk of explosion on account of gas cylinder of the car, car mechanics from Ajekar were asked to remove the battery connection of the cylinder and remove its regulator. Thereafter, fire brigade personnel and locals together extinguished the fire.
