Puttur, Feb 19: The wheels of the chariot carrying the Utsava Murthy of Lord Sahasralingeshwara Temple in Uppinangady rolled through the streets of Uppinangady for the first time after a gap of about a century on Wednesday February 18. After floods had destroyed the chariot of the temple about 100 years back, the dream of celebrating car festival had remained unfulfilled.

This year, the temple got a new chariot with the efforts of the managing committee of the temple.

On Wednesday morning, the chariot was dedicated to the Lord, and various other religious rituals were conducted under the guidance of Brahmasri Kemminje Nagesh Tantri. A number of devotees served sweets and Panaka to the devotees accompanying the chariot when the chariot went through its pre-decided route.

Brahmakalashotsava committee president, Shakuntala Shetty, managing committee president, Karunakara Suvarna, members of the committees, and dignitaries were present during the car festival.

On this occasion, people who significantly contributed towards the acquisition of new chariot were honoured.
