New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS): The swearing-in ceremony of the Delhi assembly Monday witnessed a colourful mix of languages including Punjabi, Maithli, Urdu, English and even Sanskrit much to the liking of those present in the house.

While the majority of the 67 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members took oath in Hindi, some of them preferred other languages, adding the much-needed colour to the usually dreary ceremony.

Assembly members by the name of Jarnail Singh, from Rajouri Garden and Tilak Nigar constituencies, took oath in Punjabi.

Devendra Sehrawat (Bijwasan), Somnath Bharti (Malviya Nagar) and Nitin Tyagi (Laxmi Nagar) preferred English.

Okhla legislator Amanatullah Khan and Haji Ishraq (Seelampur) took oath in Urdu, while Rituraj Jha (Kirari) and Sanjeev Jha (Burari) chose Maithili.

Rituraj Jha was even dressed in traditional Maithili attire that included a white dhoti and a red kurta coupled with a bright yellow scarf and purple cap.

However, it was Kapil Mishra, the legislator from Karawal Nagar, who wowed the audience as he took oath in fluent Sanskrit, eliciting tremendous applause from the house.
