Mangalore, Jan 30: Opposing the move of closing admissions for Std 1 and all fresh admissions to other classes by Kendriya Vidyalaya 2, the railway employees along with their wards held a protest in the Mangalore Railway station on Tuesday, Jan 30.

Children held placards demanding for opening admissions and also took out a small rally within the railway station premises.

The school situated in the Railway colony, has around 600 children of railway employees and other Central Government Employees.

According to available information, the school has been functioning in the building since 1992 and was sanctioned 6 acres of land near Fisheries College to build a bigger school building. However the new land was given on a lease period of 30 years. The school management however has demanded for a 99-year-period lease.

Further the school has also placed its demand asking for development of the land to be undertaken by the railways themselves.

The railway employees are unhappy that if the school shifts to the new premises which does not have quarters facility in it, they will have to face a lot of inconveniences.

During the protest, the employees have asked the school to start admissions to the school and at the same time demand the Government to extend the lease period to 99 years.
