Mangaluru, Mar 13: The Global Kidney Foundation was launched on Thursday March 12 and will offer free treatment till Wednesday March 25 at Global Multispecialty Hospital, Matadakani Road, Urwa.

Minister for health and family welfare U T Khader inaugurated the event at the Hospital by lighting the lamp. Dr Sudaram Rai welcomed the gathering.

Khader said, “Global Hospital is providing good service to the society at an affordable price. I have spoken to the chief minister on starting dialysis centers in all the districts and two have already been started. This will help the patients of rural areas. We have already developed a dialysis center in Wenlock Hospital with 12 units. When I visited the district hospitals across the state, dialysis was conducted only once in a day That is if there are three units, only three people were treated. But now, we have ordered that every unit must treat three people per day. We are having a dialogue with PPP model on starting dialysis centers. We have started peritoneal dialysis for the first time in the state. Global Hospital is providing dialysis at Rs 700 which is really a competitive and affordable price for patients. I appreciate their service to society.”

Ivan D’Souza, MLC, chief guest on the occasion said, “Today we are talking about the treatment of disease after it affects us. But we have to think about taking precautions. We have sophisticated machines but the number of patients is increasing and this has to be reduced by creating awareness among people. People should be made aware about diseases. After U T Khader became the health minister, Wenlock has been developed a lot. Crores of rupees have been invested in the infrastructure of the hospital but people above poverty line people don't want to go there as they have a misconception and this has to be changed. I appreciate Global Hospital for their social concern and wish them all the best.”

Dr Sushil Jathanna said, “Kidney disease is a serious problem. Medicines are very expensive. We are treating all kidney diseases under one roof. If kidney diseases are detected early they can be treated and cured. In the next two to three years we are planning to start kidney transplants here at Global Hospital. I request the health minister to include renal dialysis under Vajpayee scheme. I appreciate our health minister’s effort of including APL card holders in government medical schemes.”

Dr Nayak was also present on the occasion.
