Mid Day

Mumbai, Feb 8: Around 30 devotees were locked inside the Andheri Muslim Qabrastan Masjid at Four Bungalows for around 90 minutes, when the police locked the main entrance of the mosque.

The police had to take this drastic action after slumdwellers living near the mosque got agitated. In the evening, an SRA builder removed a small gate that separated the mosque and a gurudwara and erected a 7 ft wall.

Slum residents used the small gate to enter the mosque. Late in the evening, the slumdwellers started breaking the wall when the local police were informed about the incident.

More than 50 policemen with lathis were immediately deployed to the spot. At around 10.30 pm, the police locked the main gate of the mosque to prevent any untoward incident. It was opened only after midnight.
